It is almost the end of the summer and time to look back at the
events of the past year. This year we had another very successful Dance
Impressions Exhibit in Kitimat. The art exhibit is the culmination of
the annual International Dance Day dance classes in local elementary
schools, and the subsequent art classes with he same students who
participated in the dance classes. Our very talented instructors this
year were once again Leah Correia (dance) and Eileen Hutson (art). We
are very fortunate to have these wonderful ladies to bring out the best
in our students.

The dance and art classes are very popular with
local teachers who incorporate it into their Fine Arts curriculum. Leah
was challenged by the size of classes, because teachers combined
classes to let as many students as possible participate. It is clear
that one day of classes is not enough – we may have to expand this event
or present them as mass dance classes.

The dance classes were
made possible by funding from Made in BC and the art
classes were sponsored by Kitimat Arts For Youth, a community non-profit
organization. It is great to have positive community partners to make
initiatives such as Dance Impressions possible. This year the exhibit
formed part of the first ever Kitimat Arts Festival which ran from June
4th through 13th.
Dance Impressions was once again a great success and we look forward to next year’s event!
