Kitimat International Dance Day Celebration

The Lower Level of the City Centre Mall in Kitimat came alive on Sunday afternoon, April 29th 2012 for International Dance Day.  Students from Nechako Elementary and some adult dancers drew attention with a flash mob they learned during National Dance Week.  A small crowd assembled by the time Tribal Dancers Abenaa and Daria started to perform.  Still more people arrived and enjoyed the coffee, snacks and juice provided while taking in the entertainment and admiring the Dance Impressions art.

After the tribal dancers, a group of lively dancers from the Snowflake Seniors' Centre demonstrated line dancing to the appreciative crowd.  They invited the spectators to join in and taught them a simple line dance routine.  Some people also wanted to learn the flash mob moves and the kids from Nechako Elementary were happy to oblige!  Many people remarked that this was a lot of fun.  Everyone enjoyed dancing on International Dance Day.

The celebration gave us the opportunity to talk to people about Made in BC and showcased some dance activities taht are available for all ages in Kitimat.  We are looking forward to next year's celebration with many more local dancers!
